Hobonichi - Cover Cousin A5 | iyo okumi: A Story About Me

This Cousin-size cover is a collaboration with Japanese embroidery artist and illustrator iyo okumi, whose work captures a quiet sense of magic in everyday scenes through delicate stitching and soft, poetic imagery.

Set against a deep navy background, the embroidery depicts a curious, fable-like world: a bear and a goose in noble collars, a sleeping stuffed monkey, tropical trees and plants, coffee and cookies, a bat, a bunch of grapes, and a gentle crab carefully holding a letter. It feels like someone’s secret collection of favorite things, gathered and preserved in thread.

The embroidery is colorful, textured, and full of dimension. The design invites touch and close observation, revealing new details over time. The bookmark is a lace-like ribbon that echoes the embroidered border on the front cover.

On the back, you’ll find embroidered colored pencil stubs, as if they had tumbled from a hidden box of treasures.
