DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Set of 12 pencils Blackwing Volumes Vol. 200: The Coffeehouse Pencil
In 1948, amid the uncertainty of postwar America, the Beat Generation was born. Rooted in anti-materialism and exploration of the human condition, this literary movement would gather in coffee shops in New York and San Francisco to recite poetry over cups of black coffee. During the 1950s and 1960s, coffee houses became synonymous with creativity and intellectuality.
One such example was Caffè Lena in Saratoga , New York. Opened in a former woodshop in 1960, Caffè Lena remains the oldest coffee shop in the United States still in operation. That longevity has allowed it to host countless creative icons, from the Beatniks to Folk Revivalists, and has established Caffè Lena as a cornerstone of America's creative counterculture.
The Blackwing 200 is a tribute to coffee shops like Caffè Lena and the creative culture they help cultivate. Each pencil features a metallic copper design inspired by the classic copper coffee roasting machines found in many coffee shops during the 1950s and 1960s. The roasting process begins when the internal temperature of a coffee bean reaches 200 degrees Celsius. , transforming it into the well-known coffee bean. These pencils also feature a firm graphite core, perfect for finding inspiration at a local coffee shop.
